IWM Uzunma Ogburafor was born into the family of Very Rev. David Uguru and Ezinne Mary Ori Njoku of Umukoma Okoko Item, both of blessed memory. Her early education was at Amaokwe Item Central School before moving to Amato Central School Ndoro Oboro where she completed her primary school.
She started her secondary school education at Oboro Secondary School before moving to Holy Rosary College Umuahia where she sat and passed her West African School Certificate Examination. She proceeded to the School of Nursing Aba and qualified as a Registered Nurse (RN) and also got her Registered Midwife (RM) from the same institution.
She obtained a BSC in Nursing from the University of Nigeria Nsukka majoring in Public Health. She has a PGDM and MSC in Management from the University of Calabar and PGDE and MSC in Education Psychology from the Imo State University.
IWM Uzunma has worked in many places both in Imo and Anambra States in places like Park Lane General Hospital Enugu, Poly Clinic, Asata Enugu, Ministry of Health Enugu as the State Programmed on Immunization for many years.
On her return from Enugu in 1998, she taught at the School of Nursing, Aba and School of Nursing Federal Medical Centre Umuahia. She was then transferred to the College of Health Technology, Aba where she headed the Reproductive Health Department before establishing the School of Public Health Nursing, got accreditation for it and became the pioneer Head not Department. She meritoriously retired from the State Ministry of Health in 2014.
Between 1992, she was the President General Item Women in Enugu and between 1999-2004 was the President General Item Women Home and Abroad. During this period, she worked hard to change the perception of women about leadership. One of the major Projects centered on awareness creation on the realities of HIV/AIDS under the auspices of the Society for Family Health (SFM).
Her activities have earned her awards and recognition for community services including Chieftaincy Title by her community as “Ochinawata” that she is popularly called by both young and old.
Presently, she is a lecturer at the Department of Nursing Science, Abia State University Uturu employed on contract by the University.
She is a full member of the Methodist Church Nigeria and worships at the St. Charles Methodist Church Umungasi. She has received many awards and recognition by the church including the prestigious EZINNE title.
IWM Uzunma joined International Inner Wheel in 2009 and has held many positions including Club President, District Extension Service Chairman District Editor, District Secretary for three consecutive years and District Vice Chairman.
She is married to HRH Eze Godswill Ogburafor and the marriage is blessed with six children and four grand children.
